Longgok
LONGGOK is a durational performance work that draws from the Malay superstition surrounding piles of unfolded clothes—believed to be frequented by the unseen presence of Jinn. Positioned between the mundane and the mystical, LONGGOK explores our complex and often ambivalent relationship with the unseen: the spiritual, the ignored, the forgotten. Through repetitive gestures and embodied stillness, the performance evokes both ritual and routine, confronting the everyday with quiet intensity. In LONGGOK, the pile becomes a site of accumulation—not just of garments, but of cultural memory, domestic neglect, and spiritual residue. This work is a reflection on tradition, in which Malay customs are not only preserved but questioned and refracted through a contemporary lens. Drawing on lived experience and modern cultural habits, LONGGOK examines how belief systems endure, mutate, or become aestheticised in today’s fast-paced, media-saturated environments.
