Loading/Unloading
Loading/Unloading explores the often-unseen rhythms and human effort behind a port's colossal structures, specifically drawing inspiration from Singapore's Tanjong Pagar port. Presented as part of the "Lonely Vectors" exhibition (2022) at the Singapore Art Museum, the work explores the movement of fixing and testing to illuminate the theme of labour and the unseen manpower that drives these industrial giants.
The performance features performers engaging with a modular structural installation made of metal. Throughout the exhibition, this installation undergoes a gradual transformation, being flattened and losing its elasticity. They disassemble, transfer, and reassemble its components, echoing the precise yet strenuous actions found within a bustling port environment.
The performance takes place across diverse settings within the museum, including a gallery, cargo lift, and loading bay, further immersing the audience in an environment that evokes the functional spaces of a port.
