President Trump has been working tirelessly on renovations in the White House. The first noticeable change was the gilded modifications to the Oval Office. Next, he announced his plans to build a $200 million ballroom twice the size of the White House itself. Most recently, he modified the White House Rose Garden, replacing a luscious lawn with $1.9 million worth of stone. This new patio looks almost identical to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. In addition to this, he has been selling “Trump 2028” hats on his official store, with the listing saying “Rewrite the rules with the Trump 2028 high crown hat.” With all of these factors combined, we can infer that Trump would not be making these drastic changes if he planned on leaving the White House.
In addition to these elaborate renovations, the President has also said some constitutionally concerning things in press conferences for over a year regarding this term. In a Fox News interview last July, he implied that if elected, he would “fix” the system so that Americans would never have to vote again. This evidently implied that he would eliminate presidential term limits, an essential part of the checks and balances of the executive branch that ensures a president cannot serve for too long, as that would make him somewhat of a king. In Trump’s case, he has become more of a dictator than a king. In fact, this past August, after historically denying that he is one, Trump stated, “A lot of people are saying, ‘Maybe we like a dictator.’” This should be alarming to anyone who even remotely cares about democracy. We are not falling into fascism; we are already living in it.
Donald Trump is not planning on leaving the White House, and he has the support of all three branches of government to make this happen. Checks and balances fall out the window when the legislative and judicial branches are both part of the army behind a fascist regime. Democrats do not feel their representatives are doing enough to protect them, and many Republicans regret voting for Trump, or never supported the MAGA movement in the first place. With the support of the Republican supermajority in Congress and in the courts, Trump can do whatever he wants. If the government does nothing to stop him, Trump will make sure there is never another presidential election, and we will be stuck under his dictatorship until he dies.
