New Year's and the Dragon's Aria

Happy New Year!

…feels a bit strange to say, considering I’ve only just started this journal.

I wanted to imagine what it’d be like to live ignoring the beginnings and endings of years, but it makes my brain itch, so we won’t.

Recently, some snow came to the woods. Noel hid away in her room, but I went outside to wander around in it. Noel has told me she finds the steady silence the snow brings a bit terrifying, but I think she’s just in her head too much, as usual. You can break the snow’s silence easily, after all. It doesn’t even feel or look violent when you do.

I walked about in the stillness, stomping out tracks, shaking the branches I could reach, and carving out my initials on ice until I felt satisfied enough with my own powers of disruption. Nothing else dared show its face out there. I guess nothing else needs to. But I do. Sometimes, anyway.

Today’s coffee is already lukewarm, but I still have something to talk about: at the end of the month, I’ll be starting to make my first serialized fiction series available.

The series is called “The Dragon’s Aria.” It’s high fantasy, and I think you could comfortably slot it into a young adult category.

I wrote Aria wanting to explore the idea of ‘not being able to escape fate.’ No matter how far you run, no matter how hard you try to forget… destiny just finds you in a different form. Or at least that’s how it is for the characters in this story.

I’m sure most people have something like that in life. It’s the one thing you wish you didn’t have to go through, the one thing you’re convinced you don’t need in your life, but it rears its head wherever you turn. Do you make your life about running from it or facing it, then? Well, realistically, you probably do a bit of both…

Right now, The Dragon’s Aria will feature cover art that I hobbled together on Canva, but if any artists are reading this, or if you, dear reader, know of any artists that are up to the task, I will be searching to commission real cover art later down the line.
