P.U.C. Building
In the empty plot to the left of The Currant, once stood an old frame building that housed a multitude of different businesses. At different points in time the first building contained Mr. McPhee’s Barber Shop, a Chinese Laundry, and a Boot Makers Shop.
This building was torn down and soon Sid Emery constructed a new building on this lot, which housed his implement business. By 1960, the building had become the Parkhill P.U.C (Public Utilities Commission). The P.U.C. managed the operations of the Hydro and Water Works distribution system, supplying the town with power and water.
After the amalgamation of North Middlesex in 2001, the Town of Parkhill disbanded the P.U.C. and sold all assets, the proceeds of which were transferred to the Parkhill Hydro Proceeds Fund which funded many community projects including the Splash Pad, Smart Boards for Parkhill West Williams and Sacred Heart, and new Welcome Signs at the entrances to town.
The building later housed the Ministry of Transport license office and overflow offices for the municipality before it was torn down some time after 2015.
