The Old Mill Restaurant
The building that once stood on this plot was known as the Grain Exchange, containing two offices occupied by grain dealers. Later, the south side of the building was occupied by the Bell Telephone exchange and office. The north side was transformed into a restaurant. When the Bell Telephone office closed, the whole building became a restaurant.
Eventually, the space was transformed into The Old Mill Dining Lounge. Over the years, renovations were done that made the building unrecognizable from its original state.
The Old Mill caught fire in May 1992. The renovations to the facade contributed to the great difficulty in controlling the fire. The fire was contained to the oldest part of the building, and only the newer addition remained.
Following the fire, another restaurant was constructed from the addition, Ming’s Chinese Restaurant, which continues to operate from this location today.
