Waters' Elevators
This site has housed a number of elevators over the history of Parkhill. In 1882, W.H. Hutchins bought the property from the West Williams Agricultural Society and built an elevator which he operated until 1894. The elevator had a number of owners including Oscar Griffith, who rented the business to Don Waters from 1941 to 1943, when Waters bought the business.
In 1946, a fire destroyed the elevator and bean processing plant on the site, and Waters continued operations out of a mill on Mill Street until a new elevator was constructed here in 1947. Over the next 30 years, new buildings were added to the site including the silo sector, the fertilizer building, and a storage building that was originally used as a freight shed by the railway.
Don’s son Bill Waters joined the business in 1963, and his other son, David, joined in 1973. Both sons took over the Parkhill elevator in 1977 when their father expanded the business into Michigan.
In 1985 the business was purchased by Parrish and Heimbecker, and in 2002 it was bought by the owners of Beechwood Agri Services who continue to operate the elevator today.
