Parkhill High School
In 1871, Parkhill Mayor Simon McLeod organized a petition for a high school to be built in Parkhill, which was sent to Provincial Chief Superintendent of Education, Egerton Ryerson. Beginning in 1872, high school was conducted in the elementary school on Catherine Street. The petition was heard, but construction plans seemed to take a few years. In 1887, the new Parkhill High School opened on the south side of the park.
There were two classrooms on the main floor, two on the second, and a furnace and washrooms in the basement of the building.
By 1948, the school was not big enough to accommodate all students. To help relieve the congestion, the Anglican Church Hall and Baptist Church Hall were rented out and used as classrooms.
To address the desperate need for more space, the Parkhill and Ailsa Craig Continuation School combined and plans commenced for a new school to be built. North Middlesex District High School was built in 1955. Parkhill High School was torn down in 1958.
