Convenience Store

When the railroad bypassed Carlisle, Peter Overholt came to Ailsa Craig from Carlisle and built this building for his bakery.

Over the years this building housed offices, dressmaking businesses, the hydro office, and a garage.

Merlon Bender, a cheesemaker, purchased the building in 1965. He later started a variety store in the front of the building, which slowly expanded to take over the entire first floor of the building.

The store was sold to Steve Mungar in 1988, and then to Jason Kim and his family, who operate J&D Variety today.
