This house, built in 1864, is the former home of David Craig, one of the co-founders of the town.
The property included a barn across the road named "Dalsangan," named after his home in Scotland. The two neighbouring homes were formerly an orchard, belonging to David Craig.
David Craig, and an Irishman named Risk, were the first settlers in the Ailsa Craig area, arriving in 1835.
After discovering that the name "Craig's Station" was already being used elsewhere in Canada, Craig named the village Ailsa Craig after a small island off the coast of Scotland.
Mr. Craig was an engineer, and erected six large sugar plantations in Cuba before arriving in Canada. He later built three bridges in McGillivray at his own expense.
One of David Craig's daughters married Mr. Jamieson, who was a blacksmith. The street on which his shop was located is named Jamieson.
