Nitin R. Kapania, PhD


I am a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University in the Dynamic Design Laboratory, headed by Prof. Chris Gerdes, and a visiting scholar in the Model Predictive Control Laboratory, headed by Prof. Francesco Borrelli at UC Berkeley. I am also affiliated with the Hyundai Center of Excellence.

My research is currently focused on planning and control of autonomous vehicles near the limits of tire-road friction, along with methods for learning from prior driving experience to improve performance.

I completed the PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from 2011 to 2016 at Stanford University, where I also served as a lecturer for Vehicle Dynamics and Control in Spring 2016.

From 2016 to 2018 I served as a management consultant at Bain and Company, where I developed broad expertise in commercial applications for autonomous driving, Internet of Things, and Artificial Intelligence.
