Lightroom Presets Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)Lightroom Presets

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)#gap-1373624963 { padding-top: 26px;}What Is Adobe Lightroom?Adobe Lightroom is a photo editing software used by photographers to edit your photos digitally while also allowing photographers to organize their photos quickly and efficiently allowing them to edit more photos in a shorter amount of time. Within the Lightroom software is the preset panel where users can edit photos with custom or saved photography presets.

There are several different versions of Lightroom that require slightly different installation methods to import or load photo Lightroom presets into the relevant version. Each method basically has you installing (importing or copying and pasting) the presets into the application folder or importing directly from inside the Lightroom Presets Panel. A thing to note is that there are slightly different locations depending on the type of computer you are using, but the method is very similar. Links to the install methods for each version of Lightroom are included on our install page linked below.

Using Lightroom presets is very easy and takes just a few minutes to learn and become comfortable in Lightroom and with applying and then customizing the Lightroom presets using the sliders, if needed, to each image. Try each Lightroom preset to see how it changes your image. You can then adjust any of the Lightroom preset sliders that you want to adjust the image further. We have created video tutorials for all of our photo preset collections and they are included on each product page. Please watch several of the tutorials to become comfortable editing your images with the Lightroom presets.

Editing photos that were taken on cloudy days or in overcast conditions can be a struggle, so I'm going to share with you some tips to make your Lightroom presets work for you and also tips for shooting in good light when there are overcast skies.

Some Lightroom presets make the shadows super dark, or have settings intended for sunny days that just don't work on overcast photos. So either get a Lightroom preset that you know works great for cloudy days or be ready to do a lot of tweaking. My Inner Light Presets have 5 different color presets and they look amazing in all different kinds of light. All photos on this blog (and my entire website!) were edited with them. I personally recommend number 5 for cloudy days, called Punchy Warmth, which gives skin tones the perfect warmth and glow. You can find out more about them and purchase my Inner Light Lightroom Presets here.

I was able to import all my presents from Lightroom Classic, to Lightroom CLOUD. I did this to use my presets on my mobile devices. Right now I have access to all these presents on my iPhone with no problems, but I am not sure if I can even use them on my iPad Pro.

I have Lightroom CC installed on two computers and I use the mobile app on my iPhone. I use two VSCO preset packs. These VSCO preset packs have been duplicated on both of my devices and in the mobile app. This makes using the presets much more time consuming because I have to scroll through twice as many. The only way to get rid of the duplicates seems to be deleting each one individually. The other option seems to involve deleting my entire LR catalog online. Neither of these solutions make any sense and Adobe needs to provide a legitimate solution to this issue.

I still have not found a solution to this problem other. I continue to have two of each VSCO preset in Lightroom CC on my desktop, my laptop and my iPhone. If I try to delete the duplicate presets, they just come back later. There are no duplicate presets the following folder on either my desktop or laptop.

I have a similar problem but not with vsco presets. It's happening with the Adobe provided camera specific profiles. Across all my used platforms. Mac, iPad and iPhone. The problem is there seems to be two different profile sets with what looks like the same Id because while both sets have the same names (standard, original, landscape etc) they create different looks.

What is missing in PhotoLab2 which would lighten the burden of incompatibility with Lightroom presets is the ability to apply external LUTs to images. LUTs were promised in December 2018. This is a bad choice of promise for DxO to break as LUTs are a modern standard now.

Featuring powerful new AI Adaptive presets for localized retouching, powered by Adobe Sensei Artificial Intelligence.

Making the most of Lightroom's latest adaptive AI features, we've designed a collection that truly does the heavy lifting for you! Get white teeth, brighter eyes, softened skin, recovered skies, and so much more in just a click with our Quick Fix Presets! With this collection we have combined our pro settings with advanced AI detection for one click subject & scene retouching that truly feels like magic! (Note: This collection relies on the LATEST Adobe feature updates to function! See detailed compatibility below!)

AI or Adaptive presets are one-click tools that work from your presets tab in Lightroom to apply settings changes locally (to a very specific attribute) as detected by AI in the most up-to-date versions of Lightroom, Lightroom Classic, and Photoshop ACR for desktop! Modern subscription versions of these programs can detect background, sky, subject(s)/people, and isolate very specific parts of each person (Face Skin, Body Skin, Eyebrows, Iris & Pupil, Lips, Teeth, and Hair) for refined & clean selection of these specific parts of your images.

With Quick Fix AI, we take expert retouching settings (that you would typically apply manually with the local adjustment brush or local adjustment sliders) and combine them with Adobe's AI detection for one-touch retouching from your presets tab! Check out our full guide to use with example workflows HERE.

Presetsare essentially a configuration of settings, designed to quickly achieve the look of hours of editing, making global changes with a single click. On average, our presets change 30-50 settings.

A LUT is a tool that allows filmmakers, editors, and colorists to apply specific color grades to film/video (raw log footage) or images. Our LUTs or color lookup tables are .CUBE format presets created to colorgrade film clips. These can be used in most video-editing software and any photo editing software that allows for adjustment layers targeting lookup tables for color grading. We've included some common programs below, but if you know your software can support .CUBE LUTs, then you can use these!

While many professional photographers and editors prefer to edit images on a larger screen (desktop vs mobile) or with more robust software (Lightroom subscription vs free mobile app), it certainly is not necessary or required. All images can easily be shot, edited, and posted from a mobile device. In fact, using presets when working on mobile will help to ensure an ideal mobile-friendly edit. Luxe presets work seamlessly between desktop and mobile* and you can easily transfer between devices. Do what works for you!

*Certain Tool, Adaptive (AI), and Effects Presets must be synced from Lightroom (CC) on a computer or the Premium Lightroom App on an Android device to be used on an iPhone or iPad due to iOS app limitations.

If you want to migrate your Lightroom Classic develop presets into Lightroom, see Migrate Presets. Additionally, you can also go through the quick tips on how to use Presets in Lightroom Classic.

When you launch Lightroom desktop (v1.4 June 2018 release or later) for the first time after installing or updating, the existing Lightroom Classic profiles and presets on your computer are automatically migrated to Lightroom.
