Welcome to my webpage.
My name is Nikola Milićević, I am an Assistant Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Texas El Paso since 09/2025.
I was a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Eberly College of Science, Department of Mathematics at Pennsylvania State University, 08/2021-08/2025, working with Vladimir Itskov in applied topology and theoretical neuroscience.
In the Fall of 2023, I was a postdoctoral fellow at ICERM for the Math + Neuroscience semester program.
I completed my Ph.D. in Mathematics at the University of Florida in May 2021, under Peter Bubenik. The focus of my dissertation was in Topological Data Analysis (TDA), which studies the “shape” of data. My thesis work, Algebraic Approach for Topological Data Analysis, is available online.
My areas of interests are:
Theoretical neuroscience, topological data analysis and applied topology and their applications to biology, algebraic topology, machine learning, category theory, commutative algebra, applied sheaf theory.
