Welcome to my web site, in this age of social media personal web sites are a bit 1990’s, but it allows me to ramble on with my opinionated rubbish unhindered by any unwanted comments, but if you feel compelled to give me some feedback, then you can always send me an e-mail.
I live in rural Wiltshire, which I believe is a very peaceful part of the country, work for a large company which is “OK”, and my interests include photography, music, a bit of cycling and rowing, (all part of the trying not to get fat thing), computing, DIY, fixing things and "classic" agricultural equipment.
Having travelled a great deal with my job I associate getting on a plane with the mundane “work”, and the whole airport experience is so tedious as waiting is still waiting, platinum card or not. So for me driving a few hours from home and finding the most amazing picturesque photogenic and usually quiet places is great. Take a look at the Photos section and judge for yourself! I have added links below for a few location I would suggest are worth a visit.
Technology, I have to admit I am a bit old school and I like to think that when you buy a bit of equipment it can be upgraded to the latest version, at least for a few years. So I do get annoyed with manufacturers who try to prevent this for obvious reasons. So I would like to promote the upgradability of Android devices, there is a great website Cyanogenmod (link below) that offer builds to the latest version of the Android operating system for a wide variety of devices.
Cameras, I currently have a Panasonic Lumix FZ50, which must be 10 years old now, and I am due an upgrade, the problem is I am struggling to find a replacement, at the same price/performance point. The camera was marketed as a bridge camera, but had a fixed, fluid balanced lens, so the zoom operated as like a standard SLR, and all replacements have a motorised zoom, which is just not the same. The resolution at 10 meg is very middle of the road, but the optics with 12x zoom are great and I still think it good even with the current bridge cameras offered. But if you have any suggestions let me know.
Agriculture, well to be precise agricultural equipment, I grew up next to an arable farm in Lincolnshire in the 80’s due to the amount of clay in the soil, they needed to sub-soil as part of preparing the land for the next crop. As the 80’s were a golden age for farm subsidies and the owner took advantage and larger and larger equipment was purchased, and this is where my interest started. I am part of a local group The Wiltshire Agricultural Preservation Group, who hold an annual show where a wide verity of equipment exhibited and demonstrated, and I would recommend attending.
