About us
The main objectives of NIDE are to create a network of development economists based in Irish institutions, facilitate exchange of ideas and collaborations amongst network members, support junior researchers interested in the field of development economics who are based in Ireland and to increase Ireland’s contribution to development economics research. In addition, we hope to foster closer collaborations between Irish-based researchers involved in development economics and key Irish stakeholders engaged in development initiatives in developing countries.

-NIDE is organizing a workshop on June 22 2026 at Trinity College Dublin. The workshop will feature Siwan Anderson (UBC) and Patrick Francois (UBC) as keynote speakers. PhD candidates and early-career researchers are especially encouraged to submit their work. Please use this form to submit your paper and register to become a member of NIDE. Submission deadline is March 31, 2026.
-The workshop on Persistence and Cultural Transmission will take place at Queen's University Belfast (UK) on 18-19 June 2026. The workshop will feature Siwan Anderson (UBC) and Patrick Francois (UBC) as keynote speakers. More details can be found on the conference website: link. Submission deadline is March 31, 2026.
-The 1st EDEG Conference will take place on June 11-12, 2026 and will be coordinated by the Standing Field Committee for Development Economics of the German Economic Association and hosted by IfW Kiel. Use this link to submit your paper. Deadline: 15th February 2026.

NIDE is also part of the European Development Economics Grou p (EDEG). EDEG is a collaborative initiative bringing together Development Economics groups across different European countries, including the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Italy, and France.
Each year, EDEG organises a rotating conference in Development Economics, hosted in a different European country, with a local team taking the lead in organising the event.
