Experience teaching Spanish
- 2017-2018: Pre-K through 3rd Grade Spanish Teacher at Conn Area Catholic School in Connellsville, PA.
Teaching Spanish has truly been an incredible journey both for my students and my practice as a teacher. The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages suggests using the target language as exclusively as possible both in and outside of the foreign language classroom. To facilitate this, I greet and question students throughout the school day (in the halls, in the cafeteria, on the playground, in other classes, etc) in Spanish as often as possible and help facilitate appropriate Spanish responses. Items both in my classroom and throughout the school are labeled in Spanish to increase student's noun vocabulary.
Clothing Walk-and-Write (La Ropa Camina y Escribe)
To introduce new Spanish vocabulary, we did a walk-and-write around the room where students can explore new vocabulary for some items that they are familiar with. We then played dress up charades where an actor pretends to get dressed in that item of clothing and the students had to guess in Spanish!
