Hello! My name is NIE Jiaqi, Nicole. I am a PhD student (2024-) supervised by Prof. Maggie Ziyin Mai at the Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).
Before starting my PhD journey, I served as a Research Assistant at the lab of Prof. Mai at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) from November 2022 to August 2023. Later, I came to CUHK and became a Junior Research Assistant from September 2023 to July 2024 at the Childhood Bilingualism Research Centre (CBRC), continuing to work with Prof. Mai on several government-funded projects on early trilingualism and bilingualism nurtured by Hong Kong mothers and helpers. I have completed my Master of Arts in Linguistics at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and my Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) in Guangzhou, China.
My research interests are in language acquisition, language processing, and bilingualism. I was born and raised in Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province. I am trilingual, speaking Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. I am also a beginner in French and German.
Outside of research, I enjoy listening to music, reading fiction, and doing all kinds of sports.
