Nicolas Polasek
I am a PhD student at the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE) at the University of California, Berkeley. My fields are development and labor economics.
My ongoing research projects focus on Sub-Saharan Africa and seek to understand how labor markets -- and more widely, income-generating activities -- function under conditions of conflict and related migration, elevated unemployment, and structural change. In these projects, I use experimental and quasi-experimental methods to document how households and individuals respond to shocks, and to generate evidence on policies that can create opportunities for improved economic well-being.
