Nick Lowin - cameraman
Director of Photography / Camera Operator
Director of Photography / Camera Operator
I was born in 1960 just outside London, to a Cameraman Father and Book-keeper Mother, and gained the usual O and A levels at the local school.
As a child, we would have a long family holiday every year, which meant traveling all over Europe. That love of travel and exploration has remained with me to this day.
I spent three years in Coventry, studying for an Engineering degree, and graduated as a BSc in 1982.
Following in my Father’s footsteps, I joined the film industry in 1983, progressing through the “ranks” to my present position of being a Camera Operator/DP.
I have assisted on many big Feature films and some TV series, and Operated on a mix of Movies and high end TV series in the UK. It has given me the opportunity to work and travel all over the world.
In 1996, I had a Daughter, Gemma, who after going to Make-up school, has worked as a Makeup Artist on such things as 'Coronation Street', 'Barbie', and 'Wonka' in England.
I spent some time forming a company in Pinewood Studios to produce Demo reels for Film industry personnel, and a series of Interactive DVD stories for children. This enabled me to be around to spend an ever increasing amount of time looking after my aging parents.
Both my parents died a few years ago, and at about the same time, I reconnected (after 30 years) with my now wife, Norma Patton-Lowin, a Makeup artist in Vancouver BC. This led to the opportunity of coming to Canada to live and work.
As a new Canadian Citizen, I am now continuing my career in Canada.
