I am a second year PhD student in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Toronto. My research interests are Sociophonetics, Queer Linguistics, and Discourse Analysis.
My current work focuses on the stylization and authentication of Gay/Queer icons on social media, particularly how they reinforce stereotypical ideologies of queer male performance.
I have experience with French Sociophonetics for class-based social markers for my first PhD paper, as well as Historical-Corpus Sociophonetics in the Toronto area from the 1980s for stereotypical gay male speech in my MA thesis.
Born and raised in Ontario, my path originally began toward Speech-Language Pathology (SLP). However, my experience in linguistic research slowly pivoted me away from SLP into the realm of sociolinguistics. I combined this with my interest into the phonetic basis of the stereotypical 'gaydar', and it has lead me to where I am with my work today.
I am also interested in a variety of music, video games, and cooking.
