New Year's Day, on Monday, will feature partly cloudy skies in the morning with clouds building in for the afternoon. With the clouds a few isolated showers cannot be ruled out. However, high temperatures on the first full day of 2024 will be nice, in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees.

The beach/pool score favors clear, rainless days with perceived temperatures between 75F and 90F. Based on this score, the best time of year to visit Nice for hot-weather activities is from late June to late August, with a peak score in the first week of August.

All other weather data, including cloud cover, precipitation, wind speed and direction, and solar flux, come from NASA's MERRA-2 Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis . This reanalysis combines a variety of wide-area measurements in a state-of-the-art global meteorological model to reconstruct the hourly history of weather throughout the world on a 50-kilometer grid.

We draw particular cautious attention to our reliance on the MERRA-2 model-based reconstructions for a number of important data series. While having the tremendous advantages of temporal and spatial completeness, these reconstructions: (1) are based on computer models that may have model-based errors, (2) are coarsely sampled on a 50 km grid and are therefore unable to reconstruct the local variations of many microclimates, and (3) have particular difficulty with the weather in some coastal areas, especially small islands.

We further caution that our travel scores are only as good as the data that underpin them, that weather conditions at any given location and time are unpredictable and variable, and that the definition of the scores reflects a particular set of preferences that may not agree with those of any particular reader.

I despise sunny weather and for the life of me cannot fathom why everyone else seems to love it. The humidity, constant sweating, prickly heat, clothes sticking to you, the accompanied lethargy and even the feeling of the sun on my face makes me feel physically ill. I would much rather freeze my tits off than ever experience another hot summers day. Not for me.

March is a great time to visit Nice if you want to avoid the Mediterranean heat and prefer a cooler climate on holiday. Nice weather in March is cool and sunny with a few scattered showers throughout the month.

Colorado is on the western edge of a sprawling, freakishly warm band of dry extended weather from Georgia to Ohio that has jump-started the allergy season with early-blooming plants and dry, dusty particles, health officials warn.

Helicopter pilots spend a good amount of time planning their flights around weather systems. A smart pilot always has at least a general understanding of the weather forecast for a certain area that he or she is flying through. As you can probably imagine, flying on a sunny, clear, cloudless day is something that we look forward to, but pilots must be ready with a plan for unexpected weather.

A major part of the flight lessons we cover throughout the year here at the Hillsboro Heli Academy helicopter flight school is how to safely fly in varying weather conditions so that our helicopter student pilots can gain real-world understanding of what the changing flight visibility can look like from day to day and season to season. This experiential knowledge is of massive importance to their ability to first analyze the situation, second to mitigate risk, and third to make safe decisions during their future careers.

Hot and humid weather and exposure to pollens, mold spores and air pollution could cause asthma symptoms to flare. Warm weather activities such as playing sports, exercising and camping could also lead to increased respiratory problems.

After two weeks of extremely windy weather, the ocean calmed down this week, giving anglers a better shot at lingcod and rockfish. Salmon fishing, meanwhile, slowed after very good fishing the first two weeks of the season.

With the calm weather, our charters made it back to Mack Arch for the first time in a few weeks. We have one more fairly hot day, two more real soupy days, and then the weather pattern for Southeast Texas should change beginning late Thursday or Friday. We abruptly shift into a cool and rather unsettled pattern heading into next week.
