Yes, it helps, thank you. I extracted files from one set of cabs with Universal Extractor. I had to locate an Installshield 12 viewer/extractor for the other. From there I identified the inf's, catalog, and driver files.
This tool is effectively a front-end for launching an .msi or .exe package with a real-time logfile viewer and ability to easily set some command line options. It is also however a tool for extracting some or all of the files embedded within the msi's CAB files and has a nice tree view layout showing the files according to their folder layouts. It also attempts to highlight msi table entries or files that appear to be in error or unreferenced.
It still appears you have to download the MSI SDK to obtain Orca. If you don't have access to Orca and can't be bothered downloading the SDK, any viewer capable of reading a MSSQL database file (com stuctured storage file), should be able to open the MSI file and view the contents. Make a copy of the MSI before opening it in a viewer and open the copy. Just to be sure. Once open you navigate to the Property table and look for the product GUID.
-When opening a file:
--If a file is an executable, executable reader module should always be loaded, and:
---If it contains contents that indicate exactly 1 archive exists in the file, it is treated as a self-extracting archive, and should open the file with associated archive viewer.
---If it contains contents that indicate more than 1 archive exists in the file, it is treated as a self-extracting archive, and each archive is treated as a folder inside the file in the archive viewer. When opening an embedded archive, do not assume all archives have same file format, and loads the proper archive viewer for each archive type.
---Otherwise, open the file with generic executable reader.
--Try to identify if the file contains an archive, and:
---If it contains contents that indicate exacly 1 archive exists in the file, it is treated as an archive, and should open the file with associated archive viewer..
---If it contains contents that indicate more than 1 archive exists in the file, the file is treated as a folder inside the file in the archive viewer. When opening an embedded archive, do not assume all archives have same file format, and loads the proper archive viewer for each archive type.
---Otherwise, return message that the file is not an archive.
3) Its inconvenient to use an external application to open the pdf when the metadata and the text are a part of the laserfiche document viewer ( hence the metadata and the text can't be seen using an external application which is very counter productive )
