李志純— 《箏風相繼、爭奇鬥艷》
Chihchun Chi-sun Lee— ZAS!
The original version for alto saxohpone and Chinese zheng was from very good friends of mine Dr. Richard Scruggs and Ms. Haiqiong Deng from USA, both are very phenomenal musicians. They have been asking for a new composition since 2003 and have waited to produce a CD of pieces for this type of duet. Many people associate saxophone with American culture; however, the saxophone was invented and patented in 1846 at Paris by a Belgian musician Adolphe Sax, who taught at the Paris Conservatoire. Originally written for Chinese zheng and saxophone, the composition was to bring back the history where the saxophone started, as well as bridging the French touch with Chinese zheng. ZAS! was rearranged for alto saxophone and piano in 2020. ZAS! is commissioned by the International Society for Contemporary Music-Taiwan Section, funded by the National Culture and Arts Foundation of Taiwan. The rearranged version for sax & piano was completed in 2020.
