PRIVACY POLICY & PERMISSIONS TRANSPARENCY REPORT
================================================================================
Extension Name: Nexus Mod Download Enabler
Version: 1.0.0
Last Updated: October 2026
1. INTRODUCTION & PRIVACY COMMITMENT
Nexus Mod Download Enabler is designed from the ground up with a strict privacy-first architecture. We believe that browser extensions should perform their intended utility directly inside your browser without harvesting personal information, tracking browsing habits, or communicating with external servers.
Nexus Mod Download Enabler DOES NOT collect, store, sell, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII), browsing histories, search queries, or user account credentials. All operations are performed 100% locally and client-side on your device.

2. DETAILED BREAKDOWN OF REQUESTED PERMISSIONS
The extension requests only the minimum set of permissions strictly necessary to fulfill its core functionality. Below is a complete, plain-English breakdown of why each permission is required:
A. Host Permission: "*://*.nexusmods.com/*"
- What it does: Grants the extension permission to execute its content script exclusively on Nexus Mods web pages (https://www.nexusmods.com).
- Why it is needed: Nexus Mods mod pages frequently hide the "Files" tab or download buttons due to responsive layouts, collapsed UI menus, or script delays. The extension requires access to the DOM of Nexus Mods pages to inspect anchor tags (`<a href="...tab=files">`) and force their CSS display properties to visible, ensuring users have direct and immediate access to mod downloads.
- What it DOES NOT do: The extension cannot and does not execute on any other website or domain on the internet. It does not monitor external web browsing, form inputs, or search activity.
B. Chrome Permission: "storage"
- What it does: Provides access to the browser's local storage engine (`chrome.storage.local`).
- Why it is needed: Used solely on your local computer to remember your user interface preferences between browsing sessions (such as the Master On/Off switch, visual link highlight preference, and the floating Quick Jump button toggle) as well as displaying your local counter of unlocked mod download links.
- What it DOES NOT do: Data stored in local storage remains exclusively on your machine and is never synced to external servers or third-party cloud services.

3. ARE ALL OF THESE PERMISSIONS TRULY NECESSARY? (LEAST-PRIVILEGE ASSESSMENT)
Yes. A thorough security and least-privilege audit was conducted to ensure no excessive or unnecessary permissions are requested:
✓ NO Broad Host Access: We intentionally DO NOT request `<all_urls>` or `http://*/*`. The extension is strictly constrained to `nexusmods.com`.
✓ NO Cookies Permission: We DO NOT request access to browser cookies, login sessions, or auth tokens.
✓ NO WebRequest Permission: We DO NOT inspect, monitor, redirect, or block network traffic.
✓ NO Tabs Permission: Tab management is handled using standard unprivileged Chrome APIs without reading URLs from non-Nexus tabs.
✓ NO History or Bookmarks Access: We have zero access to your browsing history or saved bookmarks.
✓ NO Remote Scripts or CDNs: All scripts, CSS styles, and icons are packaged directly inside the extension manifest. No remote code is downloaded or executed at runtime.
This design strictly adheres to Google Chrome Web Store's Single Purpose Policy and the Principle of Least Privilege (PoLP).

4. THIRD-PARTY DISCLOSURE & DATA SHARING
Because the extension collects zero data:
- No data is sold, traded, or rented to data brokers or advertisers.
- No analytics SDKs (such as Google Analytics or Mixpanel) are embedded.
- No tracking pixels, beacons, or third-party cookies are used.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
Should any future update require changes to functionality or permissions, this privacy policy will be updated accordingly with explicit notice in the extension release notes and documentation page.
