Proud ex-student of the Dr. Ribeiro Goan School, Classmate of Class of 1957 and member of the School Hockey and Prefect Teams.
Hilary was the most accomplished field hockey player of his time, referred to as the 'wizard of dribble". He was first selected to represent the Kenya Field Hockey Team whilst still a student of the Dr. Ribeiro Goan School in 1957. He was capped 110 times for Kenya from 1957 to 1970 and played at the Olympic Games in Rome, Tokyo and Mexico. He represented Kenya against all the leading field hockey nations and also captained the country. He is the only non-Sikh player to have captained the Sikh Union Hockey Team in 1968 when they won the M.R. D'Souza Gold Cup.
In Nairobi he worked for British Airways, and was Office manager for KLM Airlines. After emigrating to Canada in 1975 he joined Canadian Airlines, now Air Canada and is retired. His greatest hobby is music and is a keen tenor saxaphone player. In Nairobi he played for the Moonlight Swingers Dance Band during the 1960's and is currently a member of "Yester Melodies Dance Band" in Toronto.
Hilary and his wife Elsie are founder members of the Toronto East Goan Seniors Association (TEGSA) which was formed in 2004 and now boasts 600+ members. They both are members of the TEGSA Lancers Group, which performed at various venues in Toronto, including the RBC Seniors Jubilee Festival at the Roy Thomson Hall in 2006.
Hilary is now enjoying retirement, is a keen gardener and one of his hobbies is making stained glass pieces.
Hilary feels blessed to be a part of this Class of 1957 50th anniversary milestone and would like to take this opportunity to wish all his classmates and their families good health and happiness in the future.
