Rev. Fr. Tony Fernandes, SDB, has always been an inspirational shepherd to his flock of Dr. Ribeiro Goan School class-of-64 classmates. 46 years as a professed Salesian and 37 years as a priest of the Religious Congregation known as Salesians of Don Bosco, Fr. Tony has worked tirelessly in Tanzania, Kenya, India, and now the UK. Fr. Tony currently serves at the St. Dominic Savio Youth Retreat Centre, Cheshire, UK. It is with much pride that we announce his recent appointment to the Directorship of the Dominic Savio Retreat Centre, also known as Savio House. An accomplishment, indeed, as this is the first time a recent émigré has been appointed to such an important position. Fr. Tony asks for our prayers that he will meet the expectations of those who have voted him into this prestigious position.
Savio House is a Salesian (Don Bosco) youth centre working within the Catholic Church and offering a residential experience aimed at building trust and confidence in relationships between peers and between young people and adults. The process, which also addresses the spiritual needs, brings about personal transformation of the inner lives of young people which one witnesses at Savio House on a weekly basis. The Centre is run by Salesian Priests, Brothers and lay staff made up mainly of young volunteers who have taken a gap year.
