UPJ played host this fall to the Pennsylvania Communication Association's 86th Annual Conference, “Framing What Matters: Communication, Story, and the Human Condition,” held September 18–19 and drawing participants from 30 universities across Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, and Saudi Arabia. Dr. Spectar opened the conference with welcoming remarks at the Friday dinner, and our Communications faculty were deeply involved throughout the two-day program. Recently promoted Associate Professor Maryl McGinley presented, chaired two sessions, and led a short course on public speaking for engineering students. Paul Lucas — who also serves as PCA's Pennsylvania Communication Annual Editor and Health Communication Interest Council Chair — presented in three sessions and served as both a respondent for the Graduate Writing Competition and a roundtable panelist. Patty Wharton-Michael chaired a session and presented in two others, and Ako Inuzuka presented research on remembering Hiroshima through anime and manga. It was a fitting showcase of the same up-close, engaged scholarship that defines a UPJ education.
