1. Introduction
MBF Labs built the News World: Newspapers app as a free application. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our App.
By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
We are committed to your privacy. The App does not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information. Specifically, we do not collect:
Your name, email address, or account information
Your location data
Your device identifiers or advertising IDs (beyond what third-party SDKs may access — see Section 6)
Any form of personal data directly
3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device
The App stores the following data locally on your device only. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us:
Your favourite newspapers
Your recently read newspapers
Your selected filter preferences (country, language, type)
A local cache of newspaper data loaded from the app's bundled CSV file
This data is stored using Android's local storage (Room Database and DataStore) and is fully under your control. Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data.
4. Internet Access
The App requires an internet connection to load newspaper websites. When you tap on a newspaper, the App opens the newspaper's website either within the App's built-in browser or in your device's default browser. The App does not control or monitor your browsing activity on those websites.
Third-party websites you visit through the App have their own privacy policies and terms of service, which we encourage you to review.
5. App Permissions
The App does not request any special device permissions. We believe in a minimal-permission approach to protect your privacy. Specifically, the App does not request access to:
Camera or microphone
Contacts or call logs
Device storage or files
Location (GPS or network-based)
Phone state or identity
SMS or notifications (beyond standard system notifications)
Biometric data or sensors
The only system capability the App uses is standard internet access (INTERNET permission), which is required to load newspaper websites. This is a standard, non-sensitive permission that does not expose any personal data.
6. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services, each of which may collect data as described in their own privacy policies:
6.1 Google AdMob (Advertising)
The App displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and use data including:
Device advertising ID
IP address
App usage data
Diagnostic data
You can opt out of personalised advertising in your device settings under Google > Ads > Opt out of Ads Personalisation.
AdMob Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
6.2 Google Play In-App Review API
The App uses the Google Play In-App Review API to occasionally prompt users to rate the app. This API is provided by Google and does not transmit any data to us. It is subject to Google's Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
6.3 Coil (Image Loading)
The App uses Coil to load newspaper logos from Google's favicon service (https://www.google.com/s2/favicons). These requests are subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The App provides access to general news content from newspapers worldwide. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has used the App, please note that we do not collect any personal data.
8. Data Security
All data stored by the App is kept locally on your device and is protected by your device's built-in security. We do not transmit your personal data to any server and therefore cannot be responsible for breaches of third-party servers.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by an updated effective date at the top of this document. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
