I was fortunate to have been raised in a Christian home and the first Bible given to me by my parents had a verse written in the front and marked appropriately to remind me to take note of it. That verse was Deuteronomy 31:6, “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear or be in dread of them; for it is the Lord your God who goes with you; he will not fail you or forsake you.” After spending many years with a spiritual void in my life I have now been active in my faith since the mid 1980’s.
I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a major in microbiology. I have had a varied career in mining, research, and emergency management. As I have gotten older, I have an eagerness to learn more about the Bible and how God expects me to live and very much enjoy listening to others and how their life journey has been guided and touched by the Holy Spirit. My association with New Hope adds a new found excitement and desire to know where the Holy Spirit will lead us.
I enjoy gardening, golf and fishing and have been known to refinish furniture when the right project comes along. I make my home here in Lexington with my wife and children.

Hello! I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and was confirmed in a Presbyterian church in which my great uncle had previously served as pastor. I remained a believer in the reformed tradition as I attended Xavier University for my undergraduate degree, and Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana for my doctoral degree (chemistry). I am a professor at the University of Kentucky with appointments in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, and Electrical and Computer Engineering, and start companies based upon technologies developed there. I would tell you more about myself, but you can Google me just as easily, and would probably learn more than I could ever fit in this small box!
If I were to pick a “favorite” bible verse right now, it would be John 13:34-35, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
You will find a group of those disciples at New Hope Church. Come visit us.
