Dr. Binu Ramachandran, PI

Assistant Professor of Zoology, University of Calicut, Kerala, India.

Binu Ramachandran completed his graduate work in Julietta Uta Frey's lab at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology, Otto-Von-Guericke University, Magdeburg, Germany. His research focused on understanding the mechanisms of protein translocation during synaptic potentiation and synaptic capture during long-term memory consolidation. For his postdoctoral studies, Dr. Ramachandran joined Adriano Aguzzi's lab at the Institute of Neuropathology, ETH Zurich, and later, Prof. Urs Gerber's lab at the Brain Research Institute (HIFO) ETH at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. Following this, he conducted research in Dean's lab at the European Neuroscience Institute, Göttingen, where he investigated the role of a postsynaptic calcium sensor protein, Synaptotagmin 3, in activity-dependent synaptic receptor recycling and forgetting mechanisms (published in Science, 2019).

Dr. Ramachandran received the DST Young Investigator and TARE Award from the Government of India. He currently leads the Neuronal Plasticity Group, guiding a team of dedicated students focused on advancing our understanding of behavioral neuroscience.
