I want to update the firmware and software on my RN10400 NAS currently on OS 6.1.6. The admin page cites an update to 6.2.5 which I try to download but cant I get error 6001010060. I know the OS is a very old version and I have not been updating.

You can directly download the firmware from -100/ReadyNASOS-6.2.5-arm_RN102_RN104.zip Then you can extract the firmware image from the zip, and manually install it from the admin web ui. My memory of 6.1.6 is hazy - currently you'd install it from system->settings in the admin web ui, but it is possible that you'd do it from somewhere else in 6.1.6.

It's an NAS on a local LAN with several other PC's. But that software in it - firmware 4.2.27 - doesn't support connection to windows 10 after v1909. And since it is still working Ok with a windows 7 laptop, I'd like to get it connecting to the later versions of windows 10 too. HOWEVER . .

Just recently I wanted to upgrade the storage so I picked up 2 4tb harddrives listed on the compatibility page. I Installed them in the NAS and it was only recognizing 2tb. I figured it was a firmware issue, so I attempted to upload the firmware through the remote update. It checks for the update and finds the same firmware version that is already installed, 4.1.16. I installed it once to see if it would change on the next attempt. Same thing happened. I tried to install via local file, version 5.3.13. I hit Upload and verify and It goes through the process and a message pops up after a few minutes stating "Local file upload failed". I tried using the thumb drive utility and utilizing the bootmenu as well as reseting the unit. Tried both with the original drives and new drives.

If your NAS runs firmware 4.1.x, it's not a V2, it's a V1, and 5.x and 6x firmware won't run on it. It's also hardware limited to 2TB drives. I'd be surprised if you are actually seeing 2TB of each 4TB drive. Typically, you see only 741GB.

First Netgear NAS user. I bought a defect Netgear ReadyNAS Pro 6. The previous owner said something went wrong during a firmware update and the NAS had some sort of corrupt firmware. It was 40Euro and my plan was to see if it can be recovered with reasonable effort and if not to reuse the case and the power supply to build my own NAS using OpenMediaVault or Nas4Free.

This seems to have been the case almost for sure. The NAS is now working properly. I noticed that if I boot it without any drive inserted it does appear in RaidAR (and reporting Firmware 6.80). At the time when this happened, last Friday, the latest version on Netgear website was 6.81. As soon as I was inserting either one of the 2 drives I had available the NAS was dissapearing from Raidar. I then removed all existing partitions from one of the drives and when I booted it with that drive inserted in in slot 1 (this is by the way a drive which is listed in Pro 6 compatibility list). I gave a message "Installing X-Raid firmware on the drive" and then I could connect and configure the NAS normally. It seems it quickly and automatically downloaded version 6.90 of firmware from the Internet since this is what it reports now. I like the interface which is clear and minimalistic and very responsive. First thing I did was to disable x-raid since I want Flex-raid instead. I also ordered a E7600 CPU and 2x2GB DDR2 6400 for Intel from Ebay (7 Euro + 10.50Euro). Most likely will use it with OS6 and not convert it to nas4free since upgrade to 8GB RAM is prohibitivelly expensive and Nas4Free with ZFS is recommended to have 8GB RAM minimum.

Current firmware for your NAS is 4.1.16, and it normally only supports SMB1. There is a very old "experimental" SMB 2 included in the implementation, but you'd need to manually change the NAS configuration to use it (using ssh).

I'm new to this group and the new owner of a used READYNAS 3200. It came with eight (8) 2TB drives and old version 4.2.x firmware. I had read in these forums that I could increase the available capacity of the unit by upgrading to OS 6.10.5, which I did with no issues. I have four (4) 4TB drives on order from Amazon to set into the first four spots and am moving the older 2TB to spots 5-12 (removed the old volume already).

The BIOS upgrade discussions in this forum are not applicable to the 3200. You would have to use a SuperMicro tool to upgrade. But, that is not a good idea. With a non-Netgear version of the BIOS, you can end up with a unit that will not run the ReadyNAS firmware. The firmware will think you are trying to run it on a non-Netgear system and quit. See ReadyNAS-3200-RN12P-Firmware-BIOS-Reinstallation . The solution applied there is not revealed.

I've gone though everything I can think of, but nothing's worked. I have another thread here where I'm getting help working on that part, but in this thread I want to know more about the currently known pitfalls of trying to downgrade the firmware to see if that's playing a role. Another user responded to my other thread and said their throughput was near what I was getting in the past. So this may be a shot-in-the-dark.

There should be a part number label on the back that ends with -100XXX or -200XXX. XXX could be NAS or is could be a country-specific code. There also should be a label that shows the firmware it shipped with. Could you look for those, and post the full information?

You theoretically can run on 2 and 4, as long as they use a USB boot drive. If the boot drive is a chip then good luck (it still might be possible). Note to get to the BIOS on some of these devices you need special cable that netgear can get easily (not sure if they share it with random people). You might not need to get to the BIOS after all.

Was checking the health of my ReadyNAS units (I have 4 in total. Was specifically checking volume space availability) and noticed that a new firmware update was being noted - I was on 6.9.3 and it was noting 6.10.2 is available.

When the system reboots, it looks to do so correctly. I can see from the front panel that the firmware is noted as 6.10.2...but cannot access it either directly via it's IP address or see it in Raidar (v6.5.0).

After being totally disappointed with the firmware I goggled and I realized that the nas original firmware runs on Debian and the file system is Unix; I want to change it to OMV but i need some help on how to do it.

I am trying to update the firmware to RAIDiator 5.3.13 using both the manual upload method and the in-built 'Check for Updates' feature on the said NAS, but in both cases, I keep on getting the 'Unrecognized server error has occurred' message.

yes, I followed the link, just like the other person did. When I upload the file to my Readynas using the netgear interface, I get the same message the other person did. "The app failed to install because of an architecture mismatch". See attached desktop snapshot.

Does anyone have an example of a remote shutdown script for a NetGear ReadyNas running the latest firmware v6.10.3? Older, simple CURL scripts, no longer work due to a change in the security model.
