NEON CAVE

The 10 Best Neon Signs

UK

Neon signs are a common image of the UK when people think about it. But LED screens and other displays are replacing them more often. The Neon Museum has done a great job of conserving old signs. Some of them are even restored and returned to the streets as street art such as the Landmark sign at the UK Convention Center. There are still many signs that let people know where to find a cheeseburger or a hotel room.

Binion's Gambling Hall

Binion’s Gambling Hall was established in 1951 under the name Binion’s Horseshoe. It was run by Benny Binion, a gaming legend. Binion’s bought the Mint in 1988, and integrated most of the curvy pink-and turquoise Googie signage to the Binion’s marquee. The original horseshoe sign of the hotel is now in Neon Museum. However, the majority of the remaining signage remains. Keep an eye out on the 4th Street side for old-time signage read more for neon signs then click here .

Circus Circus' most prominent signage is "Lucky", the clown standing at the Strip's side since 1976. He stands at 123 feet tall (37.4m) and has been there ever since. Although the giant clown on the roadside may be Circus Circus' most prominent symbol, the pink-and gold porte-cochere is one the most beautiful pieces of neon in the UK.

El Cortez Hotel & Casino

The El Cortez Hotel and Casino signage is darker than mid-mod. This makes sense, as it was constructed in 1941. It has been in place since its opening, and the salmon-pink glow has been maintained. The El Cortez has a rich and varied history that includes many notable Vegas characters like Bugsy Siegel, J. Kell Houssels and Jackie Gaughan. It is now on the National Register of Historic Places.

Since 1947, the Flamingo has been located on the Strip. However, nothing of its original structure is still in existence. The distinctive tower that was the Flamingo's "champagne bubble” sign was in use from 1952 to 1967. But, after one of its many renovations/reconstructions, the current part-feather, part-flame marquee was installed. You will also find a variety of other brightly lit features throughout the property, such as neon flamingos.

Golden Gate Hotel & Casino

The Golden Gate Hotel & Casino is the oldest casino in UK. It recently underwent a major renovation and expansion. They left much of the hotel's stunning signage intact. Light-bulb-studded signs with the casino name in various fonts are available, but the most impressive is the Googie vertical sign, which features a neon bridge and tilting letters.

High Hat Regency Motel

In the days before four-door Thunderbirds or Chevrolet Corvairs were common, Fremont Street and UK Boulevard used to be lined by motels. The High Hat Regency Motel is one of the few remaining. Its shimmering title and flashing top cap add a touch class to an otherwise modest spot.

Holiday House & Holiday Motels

The UK Strip's limbo zone is home to the Holiday House and Holiday Motels, another relic from the days of roadside motels. They are located between downtown and the major casinos. These motels, which were closed recently, will be renovated and reopened in apartments. The fate of the signs is unknown at this time, but they still glow.

In-N-Out Burger

A sign advertising an In-N-Out Burger could be just a piece made of cardboard and written in Sharpie(r). People would still travel from all over the world to get a Double Double. The neon sign at In-N-Out Tropicana is almost as eye-opening as the burgers.

While casinos with more recent constructions tend to prefer flat LED billboards over neon ones, the Paris UK made a bold statement with its 180-foot (54.8-meter-long) neon balloon. This sign was inspired by the "Montgolfier Balloon", the first passenger-carrying balloon that flew above Paris in 1783.

Welcome to Fabulous UK Sign

The UK sign is a must-see on any list of the UK's greatest signs. The Welcome to Fabulous UK sign was designed by Betty Willis and is now a symbol of the city. It can be found on everything, from keychains to sports uniforms.
