This is a collection of guides to walking routes around the little village of Neilston in East Renfrewshire. There are no ads, affiliate links or clickbait here and there are no cookies used, other than those Google Sites imposes.
It's a new project and I'm still adding articles and routes right now so it probably looks a bit unstructured/unfinished (it's evolving).
Most of the walks will start and end at the same place, a central point in the village locally called, for obvious reasons, "The Bank", which is currently the home of the Neilston Development Trust.
There's a map below showing the location of The Bank, station, bus stops and car and cycle parks.
If you're not from around here, then Neilston is quite well served by ScotRail from Glasgow Central Station and by McGill's Bus Service from Glasgow (No. 3) and Paisley (No. 66). There's also a less frequent Shuttle Buses bus service between East Kilbride and Uplawmoor that passes through Neilston (No. 395). Bus times can be found here:
If you're coming by public transport, then the following widget will help you find the best way here.
If you're coming by road, then there's a decent sized car park on Kingston Road, a smaller one at the railway station (also has a cycle rack) and an even smaller one just off Main Street. I wouldn't recommend parking behind the shops (Post Office, Butchers, etc.) as there's the possibility of your car being clamped there.
For anyone that wants a shorter walk, then I'll try and mention car parking spots, where available, that could be more convenient on each route. and potential spots for an earlier return leg.
In Scotland, you can go onto most land to enjoy the outdoors – as long as you behave responsibly. This is known as Scottish access rights and is different to the position in England and Wales.
When you're enjoying the outdoors, you must follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. Click on the image below to read more about the code, what is allowed and what isn't.
