Glen Oak Park
Glen Oak Park is a neighborhood in the city of Peoria, Illinois. It is located in the northwest corner of Peoria, Illinois. The neighborhood was named for Glen Oak Woods and Glen Oak Park which were established by Edward Coles when he purchased land from Native Americans in 1819 as part of his plan to create a colony called "Colesville". The area was originally known as North Peoria until it was incorporated into its own village in 1857 which later became part of Peoria City Limits.
The Glen Oak Elementary School first opened its doors on September 5th 1929 with 225 students enrolled.[2] A new addition was built onto this school during 1954-55 making it one of only two schools built during that time period still standing today (the other being Parkway School).[3]
