Research Highlight: A new study unveiling the energetic controls of Madden-Julian Oscillation on extreme precipitation (>95 percentile) activity over the Maritime Continent using the column-integrated moist static energy (MSE) budget framework (Lumbangaol and Yu 2026; Climate Dynamics).
Research Highlight: A new study contrasting the roles of deep and shallow convection in shaping atmospheric gross moist stability (GMS) across the tropical convective region. GMS distribution explains where the MJO forms and why it weakens across the dateline (Yu and Dang 2026; Geophys. Res. Lett.).
Congratulations to our lab co-investigator, Prof. Li-Chiao Wang, on winning the "2025 Ta-You Wu Memorial Award" (吳大猷先生紀念獎) honored by the National Science and Technology Council (國科會) in Taipei, Taiwan on April 29, 2025.
Research Highlight: A new process-oriented GMS plane was proposed to depict the energy and moisture recharge-discharge cycles of the MJO and their association with various convective profiles. (Dang and Yu 2025; Climate Dynamics).

Research Highlight: Solutions of tropical convection (vertical motion), including both deep and shallow modes, under convective quasi-equilibrium (CQE) constraints are analytically formulated and evaluated against observations (Dang and Yu 2024; J. Atmos. Sci.).
Congratulations to our lab co-investigator, Prof. Li-Chiao Wang, on winning the "2024 Dr. Chia Chou Research Paper Award" honored by the president of the Meteorological Society of ROC, Prof. Pay-Liam Lin, at Central Weather Administration (CWA), Taipei, Taiwan in June 2024.
Research Highlights: One (left) explores the energetics of convectively coupled Kelvin waves (in April 2024 of Climate Dynamics); another (right) reveals the observational evidence of convective quasi-equilibrium in mesoscale convective system (in May 2024 of Geophys. Res. Lett.).
