NC COVID-19

Student Response Corps

The NC COVID-19 Student Response Corps was launched in May 2020 by Lead for North Carolina/UNC School of Government and the NC Office of Strategic Partnerships, in collaboration with many partners. Through the Response Corps, students had internships with local government and nonprofit organizations that needed support for COVID-19 response and other efforts.  

Partners in the effort included the NC Rural Center, the NC Association of County Commissioners, the NC League of Municipalities, Hometown Strong, the Office of the Governor/VolunteerNC, numerous institutions of higher education, local governments, and nonprofit organizations from across North Carolina.

2022 NC COVID-19 Student Response Corps

Information for organizations that want to host interns

  • Submit the intern request form. Intern requests are automatically uploaded to a public database.  

  • When someone applies to your internship, that application will go automatically to the email address you provide on the intern request form.  

  • You (host organizations) screen applicants and select interns. 

  • When you select an intern (or interns), submit this form. This will ensure that the intern and host organization receive Response Corps information, including invitations to ongoing educational opportunities and trainings.

Information for colleges, universities, and others helping to place interns

  • Widely share the database of internship opportunities with students, faculty, and others at your college, university, professional associations, community organizations that work with students, and others who can help publicize the opportunities.

  • Check for new opportunities frequently as the database updates automatically when host organizations submit an intern request.

  • Collaborate with students and internship host organizations to troubleshoot needs (e.g., application questions, access to necessary technology, the possibility of financial aid, etc.).

Information for students

  • Use the database to identify opportunities. 

  • Apply for one or more opportunities using this form. If you are applying to multiple opportunities, submit a separate form for each role.   

  • Work with your college or university career services staff as they may be able to provide assistance if you need support with issues related to the internship or application process. 

  • Participate in virtual training opportunities and speaker series. The training will take place in early June 2022.
