Non-equilibrium collective phenomena workshop

Sep. 27 - Oct.1, 2021

Gyeongju Hilton Hotel, Gyeongju, South Korea

About the workshop

Understanding the nonequilibrium collective dynamics of interacting systems is of crucial importance in various contexts. For example, in condensed matter physics, the interplay between the many-body interaction and nonequilibrium fluctuations gives rise to collective phenomena beyond the equilibrium paradigm. It has also been a central problem in fields such as biology, ecology, or chemical sciences, where complex dynamics emerge due to their mutual interactions. Despite their similarities and potential connections, however, there remain gaps between the fields, and their individual developments have not been fully shared or appreciated by other communities. In this workshop, we aim to overcome these barriers by bringing together scientists interested in the nonequilibrium collective phenomena of different disciplines. Our goal is to identify connections and build bridges to these seemingly unrelated subjects.

The topics relevant to the workshop include:

  • Driven quantum many-body systems / Many-body localization, thermalization, information scrambling

  • Non-Hermitian/Floquet topological phases of matter

  • Stochastic thermodynamics, thermodynamic uncertainty relations

  • Active matter/Living matter

  • Chemical reaction networks

  • Ecosystem, population dynamics, evolutionary dynamics

  • Complex systems, networks, synchronization
