The benefits of singing for children are many. Singing helps improve memory, emotional well-being, and self-esteem and provides a good workout for the heart and lungs. Singing in a primary school choir is especially fun for pupils, helping them connect while developing important social skills.
Perhaps the best thing about setting up a school choir is how easy it is to do. There are many resources to support school choir leaders meaning that you don’t have to be a primary music specialist to do it. You don’t even need to play the piano or have much singing experience yourself to establish an excellent primary choir. All you need is some enthusiasm, and everything is available at SD NCIPS Kupang.
The choir is one of the ways schools use to develop students' talents. Students who have singing abilities are given a platform to nurture their talents and are also provided with a stage to showcase them in front of the public. One of these platforms is singing during Eucharistic celebrations in churches.
The NCIPS Primary choir consists of students from grades 3 to 6. Interestingly, they come from not only Catholic but also various other religious backgrounds. They have been trained by teachers and have performed in various singing activities, including participating in various singing competitions.
On the Eucharistic celebration on Sunday, September 17, 2023, the NCIPS Primary choir performed 8 church songs in both Indonesian and English. The congregation in attendance appeared enthusiastic and delighted to listen to the very melodious voices of the children. After the Eucharistic celebration, many parishioners came forward to express their appreciation to the children and invited them to take photos together.
Activities like these have become one of the school's primary programs for boosting students' self-confidence, as well as promoting NCIPS Primary to the wider community. Hopefully, such activities will continue and bring significant benefits to all the students.
