NAWL Study Companion is a browser extension designed to help students learn and practise academic vocabulary from the New Academic Word List (NAWL). This policy explains what data the extension collects and how it is used.
The extension collects the following data, which is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's built-in storage API (chrome.storage.local):
Vocabulary encounter data: which NAWL words you have encountered, how many times, and the sentence context in which they appeared.
Learning progress: your spaced repetition review schedule, quiz performance, and which words you have marked as known.
Settings: your preferences for highlighting, quiz session size, and new words per day.
All data is stored locally on your device. No data is transmitted to any external server, third party, or the extension developer. The extension does not use analytics, tracking, cookies, or any form of remote data collection.
The extension reads the text content of web pages you visit in order to identify and highlight NAWL vocabulary. It does not read, store, or transmit any personal information, passwords, form data, or other sensitive content from the pages you visit. Only NAWL vocabulary words and their surrounding sentence context are stored locally for learning purposes.
You can export your vocabulary data as a JSON file at any time using the Export function in the extension's Settings tab. You can delete all stored data at any time using the Reset function in Settings, or by uninstalling the extension.
The extension does not use any third-party services, APIs, or external resources.
The extension is designed for university-level students. It does not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
