Markus Källander built the NavExtras app as a Free app. This SERVICE is provided by Markus Källander at no cost and is intended for use as is.
This page is used to inform visitors regarding my policies with the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information if anyone decided to use my Service.
If you choose to use my Service, then you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this policy. The Personal Information that I collect is used for providing and improving the Service. I will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.
The terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as in our Terms and Conditions, which is accessible at NavExtras unless otherwise defined in this Privacy Policy.
NavExtras uses the Android AccessibilityService API to support its core feature: Floating Navigation Overlays (Speedometer, Compass / Bearing, Altitude, and Place Name).
Why it is needed:
To automatically display floating overlays when you start navigation and hide them when you exit navigation, NavExtras needs to detect when your selected navigation apps (such as Google Maps or Waze) are active in the foreground. Android requires the AccessibilityService API to detect active foreground window changes in real time.
What data the service accesses:
The service only observes window state change events (typeWindowStateChanged) to detect the package name of the active foreground application.
What the service does NOT do:
NavExtras does NOT read, record, or observe any content displayed on your screen.
NavExtras does NOT monitor, track, or capture keystrokes, typed text, passwords, or personal credentials.
NavExtras does NOT interact with, modify, or control other applications on your screen.
Data Storage & Privacy:
No data accessed via the AccessibilityService API is collected, stored, transmitted over the internet, or shared with third parties. All processing is strictly performed locally in memory on your device in real time.
User Consent:
The Accessibility Service is completely optional. NavExtras presents a prominent disclosure screen explaining this usage and requires your affirmative consent before directing you to enable the service in your device settings. You can disable this service at any time in your Android Accessibility Settings.
NavExtras uses and displays location data to provide real-time navigation metrics (speedometer, compass heading, altitude, and approximate place name).
Foreground Location Access:
NavExtras requires permission to access location data (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION and ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION) while you are using the app or while a navigation overlay session is actively running.
Foreground Service:
When floating overlays are visible, NavExtras runs an Android Foreground Service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE_LOCATION) with a persistent notification in the status bar to ensure continuous and accurate calculations.
Reverse Geocoding (Place Name):
If you enable the optional "Place Name" overlay feature, the app transmits your current latitude and longitude over secure HTTPS to a reverse geocoding provider (OpenStreetMap Nominatim or Google) solely to retrieve the name of the current locality. These coordinates are processed ephemerally and are not saved, logged, or linked to your personal identity.
Storage:
Location data is used strictly in real time and is never stored on the device or uploaded to external servers for tracking or advertising.
For a better experience, while using our Service, I may require you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information. The information that I request will be retained on your device and is not collected by me in any way.
The app does use third party services that may collect information used to identify you.
