Tableau is the name of an American software company specializing in data visualization with a focus on business intelligence. It was founded in 2003 in Mountain View, California. Currently, its headquarters is in Seattle, Washington. In 2019, the company was fully acquired by Salesforce for a value of up to 15.7 billion US dollars.
Tableau is pronounced as "ta·blow"
Tableau was created to help users see and understand data more easily.
Tableau has several types of products, categorized by usage characteristics, such as Server, Online, Public, Desktop, Prep, Mobile, etc.
The programs suitable for general users, including students, for data work are Tableau Desktop and Tableau Public.
Please study the information on both Tableau Desktop and Tableau Public before deciding to download.
You can view the minimum requirements for computer specifications at https://www.tableau.com/products/techspecs
Most computers (both desktop and laptop) from 2012 onwards should be able to run it without problems.
Tableau Desktop and Tableau Public only work on Windows and macOS operating systems.
Tableau Desktop requires a license for use.
If you don't have a license, you can still download it for a free 14-day trial.
Good news #1: I have contacted the Tableau Academic Team to request student bulk licenses prepared for students in the course. Therefore, we can use the Product Key distributed in class as a license for use throughout that semester.
Good news #2: If you want to continue using Tableau Desktop after this, students in educational institutions can request a free one-year license or switch to using Tableau Public instead.
Download the latest version of Tableau Desktop from https://www.tableau.com/products/desktop/download
or at https://www.tableau.com/support/releases and choose the latest version of Tableau Desktop according to the operating system you are using.

After downloading, install the program on your computer by double-clicking the file and following the installation steps until completion.
Once the program is installed, it will appear in Apps or on your Desktop, where you can open and use it.
For Mac users, when you open Tableau Desktop for the first time, you may get a warning that says, "Tableau Desktop can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer." This happens because macOS prevents users from opening programs from developers not registered with Apple or installed through the App Store to help avoid installing malicious software. You can bypass this security step by doing the following: Open Finder > Applications > Right-click on Tableau Desktop > Select Open, instead of double-clicking.
Once you can open the program, select Activate with product key and enter the product key you previously received. Fill out the information again using your CMU E-mail Account (_____@cmu.ac.th) and Organization as Chiang Mai University (มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่)

The Product Key allows for 2 activations (it can be installed on 2 devices).
If you've used both activations and need to switch to a different computer, you will need to deactivate the activation on the previous device first (you can find the method here)
When the license expires, you can follow the steps to request a new license to renew it.
Tableau Public is a free platform for exploring, creating, and sharing public data viz (visualizations).
It is suitable for those interested in learning basic BI (Business Intelligence) or data viz.
Tableau Public does not allow users to save workbooks locally on personal computers;
they must be saved on the public platform only.
Therefore, it is appropriate for working with data that is ready to be publicly shared.
It supports connections to a limited number of data sources,
but it is sufficient for working with most file types, such as Google Sheets, MS Excel, CSV, JSON, PDF, SAS, and R.
If you need more advanced features, you will need to use Tableau Desktop.
Tableau Public can be used at no cost by following these steps:
Register for an account at https://public.tableau.com/app/discover?authMode=signUp
Fill in the student details (Name, Email, Password, Country or Region).
Read the Terms, Data Policy, Community Code before accepting them to create your Tableau Public account.
Check your email from Tableau Public to confirm your account.
Tableau Public is accessible through two methods:

Tableau Desktop Public Edition (via the installed program on your computer)
Download it from https://www.tableau.com/products/public/download.
Then install it by following the instructions provided by the installation program.
