Ocean Day and Night
Elle

At night, the sea is a bleak gray.
Cold and dark and unforgiving.
Everything seems hopeless
and unfair in many ways.
The sea at dawn is more understanding.
The faint colors of blue and green start to show.
I can almost hear the seagulls open their eyes, flying and landing
on the sand below
During the day, I can feel the warm rays of the sun,Â
the ocean slowly heating up.
People clamor and chatter, all having so much fun
The sun sets, there is nowhere to go but down.
No one says a word.
One more spray
Of water
One more splash
but
Eventually it all has to stop.
Everyone is silent, watching the sun disappear as it slowly goes away.
I wait for morning once more, as the ocean turns gray
Here in Santa Monica Bay.
