PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: The ruler of this Taluka belongs to the Phanse Branch of the Chandraseniya Kayastha caste. The ancient name of Vithalgadh was Vantoo, and it formerly belonged to Lakhtar from which it was aquired by Babaji Appaji, the famous Gaekwar General, in 1806. The Lakhtar Taluka was freed from the debts and the Chiefs of Limbdi and Wadhwan were checked from encroaching on the limits of Lakhtar Taluka. Babaji also helped Morvi Thakore Saheb and received Hadala from him. He also assisted the Babra Kathis and received from them Rasnal and Pipalwa and formed the present Taluka in the year 1806.The Jurisdictional Powers of the State are : Criminal - two years rigorous imprisonment and fines to the extent of 2,000Rs, Civil - fines up to the extent of 5,000Rs. 5. Phanse VITHALRAO II, 5th Chief of Vithalgadh -/1920, married and had issue.

   • Phanse Shri Vijaysinhji (qv)

6. Phanse Shri VIJAYSINHJI, 6th Chief of Vithalgadh 1920/-, born 15th October 1896, succeeded 15th February 1920, educated at Talukdari Girassia School at Wadhwan.
