PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: The family traces its ancestry to Maharaja Tarawah, who was the ruling chief of Bijapur in the Deccan, in the 14th century. His successors were his son, Maharaja Madan Sinha, and later, Rai Sambhunath, who was appointed Subedar and Nazim of the whole tract of country from Sharanpur to Meerut. Another descendant was Rai Dewali Sinha, who left Panipat in the 18th century and arrived in Murshidabad. His son, Devi Sinha, entered the service of the East India Company and was the founder of the Nashipur zamindari. Estate holders were....

Maharaja DEVI SINHA Bahadur, 1st Zamindar of Nashipur -/1805, he rendered good service to Clive at Battle of Plassey and later he became the Secretary to the Provincial Council of Murshidabad in 1773; he was granted the title of Raja and later Maharaja by the British Government on account of his good work of tax collection from a number of districts of Bengal, in his capacity as Dewan (or tax collector). He died sp on 18th April 1805.

Hon. Maharaja RANJIT SINHA Bahadur, 8th Zamindar of Nashipur 1865/1918, born 9th June 1865, educated at Berhampur College, Bengal; he took charge of the zamindari on attaining his majority on 9th June 1886; he was appointed Honorary Magistrate of the Lalbagh Independent Bench; elected Chairman of the Murshidabad municipality in 1888 and re-elected in 1899 and 1903; author of "The Rules for the Management of the Nashipur Raj Estate"; he was granted the title of Raja on 1st January 1891; he was invested with the powers of a Second-Class Magistrate in 1894; and on 1st March 1897, he was invested with the powers of a First-Class Magistrate; he was granted the title of Raja Bahadur on 22nd June 1897 as a hereditary distinction and the title of Maharaja as a personal distinction on 1st Janaury 1910; appointed Member of the Legislative Council (Bengal) in 1899; elected Member of the Governor's Council on 6th January 1913; elected Member of the Imperial Council; married 1880, Maharani Kamal Kumari, and had issue, four sons and four daughters. He died 1918.

Raja BHUPENDRA NARAYAN SINHA Bahadur, 9th Zamindar of Nashipur 1918/1949, born 1880, educated at Calcutta University (B.A.,1913); Member of the District Board of Murshidabad; Commissioner of the Murshidabad municipality; appointed Honorary Bench Magistrate; M.L.C. (Madras); married 1stly, 1905, Rani Prem Kumari of Gaya, married 2ndly, 1921, Rani Surya Kumari of Gaya, and had issue, one son and two daughters. He died in October 1949 in Delhi.
Raja RANENDRA NARAYAN SINHA Bahaduer, 10th Zamindar of Nashipur 1949/1954 and Head of the Zamindari Family of Nashipur 1954/1992, born 29th January 1929, educated at Calcutta University (B.A.); married 25th February 1956 to Rani Kusum Kumari, and had issue, one son and one daughter. He died 1992.
