NOTES - Several Indian words starting with S are pronounced Ch in different dialects especially Southern India. For eg. most Tamil speakers pronounce September as Cheptember and Saru as Charu. Hence, Solanki has been often referred to as Cholanki and Chalukya (which could have been derived from Sri Lanki emphasising their reign over Srilanka, Ceylon or Cholanka in antiquity). Chalukyas of Deccan region had marital alliance with Cholas of Tamilnadu which further proves that they were closely related people.
