PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: The state was founded in the mid 15th century by Phanimukta, a Naga Chief. It became a vassal state of Mayurbhanj in 1890. Prior to 1890, there were four Paik rebellions which were all suppressed. The Zamindari was abolished on 1st July 1952 as a consequence of the U.P. Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Act No. l of 1951 which came into force. Estate holders were....

Raja Raja Jaya Bhujanga Divyasimha Mandhata, 38th Sarbarikhar of Kaptipada 1880/1903, during his reign he suppressed the 3rd (in 1880) and 4th (in 1890) Paik rebellions and Kaptipada became a vassal of Mayurbhanj; married Rani Labanya Manjari Devi, daughter of Raja Sri Krishna Chandra Bhanja Deo of Nilgiri, and had issue. He died 1903.
