Explore Human Computer Interaction research through a summer internship at Iowa State University. The NAVI project involved optimizing queuing systems for remote operators of robotaxi / autonomous vehicle companies.
Final result was a poster at research symposium, with continuation of researched by Thomas Lenz & Dr. Jundi Liu.Â
How to deeply analyze research in a field
How to design experimental methods for human subject experiments
HCI research in a graduate level context
CARLA (open source driving simulator) integration
Handle conflicts using Git
Our simulator was developed in CARLA 0.9.15 running in Unreal Engine 4
We connected to the CARLA client remotely using a TCP server
Using CARLA's Python API & Pygame our team developed an interface to simulate a remote operator's view
Features that I worked on:
Dev tool to create different scenes quickly entirely in the Python API
Saving and loading systems to manage all scenes
Scene serving algorithm using excel file to organize all scenes with appropriate variables; makes for easy extendibility
Other features:
Simple front end interface using multiple CARLA sensor types
Tool selection bar that interacted with the car in CARLA
