This week we mainly worked on getting our shirts done, and used it as an opportunity for everyone to learn how to make shirts. However, learning is often accompanied by some degree of failure, and this was no different. When using emulsion on the silk screens, we made several mistakes, but in the end we were able to finish a good screen, and now we have firsthand experience with what to do and not to do. Then when making the shirts, we ended up burning some with the heat lamp and messing up the print on others, but we had ordered extra shirts, so it all worked out. Now we have a full set of shirts and the knowledge of how to make shirts correctly, so we are prepared for actual jobs.
This week we continued setting up our house., as well as worked on a few of our first jobs. We took our pictures, both of members and of the entire house. Then Andrew edited them and made lanyards for everyone. Daniel continued to work on the his Cold War Trophy Design, which is taking a while as he is competing with other houses on it, but the deadline isn't anywhere close for it. I set up all of the template forms and got the Sales Order Acknowledgement done for the Fall Classic Trophy we designed for the Cross Country Team, and Thomas got it signed.
We've started to get a good amount of jobs, even if they are relatively small. This week we got requests for doorstops from Villano, Li, Ferris, Hunt, and Duston. We have start designing these and negotiating prices with each teacher. However, even though it is good for us to have jobs, we as a team have started discussing what types of jobs we really want to do and be known for, and most of us agree that once we get going, we don't want to do small jobs like this, but it is undeniable that they are important in the start-up process. I personally have also been helping Andrew set up the financial sheets and quote calculator. Daniel has continued designing his Cold War Trophy, and Avidh and Thomas have begun work on the doorstops.
This week I mainly helped out with our financial spreadsheets, and just helping people with their jobs, if they needed it. We've added graphs for expenses vs income and a total profit graph to our spreadsheet, as well as just cleaned it up a bit. As for the jobs, Daniel has started creating prototypes of his trophies, but they aren't coming out how he had envisioned them, so he still has some designing to do. For the doorstops, we have decided to shift from 3D Printing to cutting wood as it would've used too much filament and taken too long. This also allows us to engrave custom images into the wood at the request of our customers.
This week Kaden used his connection with Seaward Brewing and Fillmore Middle School to get us some jobs. For Seaward Brewing, we are to create beer flights, which Kaden and I have begun discussing designs for, and coasters to sell to their customers, which we plan to use a circular variation of their logo for a circular coaster. For Fillmore Middle School, we are going to create ASB Shirts, but we need to create a design from scratch for it. As for the already existing jobs, Daniel is still designing trophies to better suit the acrylic, and we are still making the doorstops.
We've decided to hold off on creating beer flights. We have started prototyping the coasters to show to the customer in order to make sure they are up to his standard. Then, if he approves, we will create them with higher quality wood, and get them treated how the customer wants (since it is for a brewery, he wants the wood treated). Also, Andrew has been working on Fillmore ASB shirt designs, which he made several of. The customer told us which she preferred and we will create the shirts soon. Last of all, Atto took charge in putting up the carport for DTech.
The week we mainly worked on our doorstops. We took the design requests from Hunt, Li, Villano, and Ferris. Andrew created Li's doorstop using the same design he made for Li's stamp. Ferris and Hunt both just wanted their name and room number on their doorstop, so I took the lead on those. I went to both of them once I made a simple design and got it approved for creation. For Villano, he requested that an equation would be put on his doorstop. We have secured this job, but we haven't started on it yet. We have created Ferris' doorstop, but still need to deliver it, and we still need to make the other two we have designed.
At long last we could finally create the Cold War Trophies that Daniel had been grinding away with for so many weeks. We got the design approved and began production using the laser cutter. However, it didn't go smoothly. We had originally got a sheet of acrylic that was just big enough to cut out enough designs, but when Andrew and Avidh went to cut it, they were also committed to other tasks, so they didn't pay much attention to the job. As a result, the laser seemed to have unfocused in the middle of the job, ruining a little under half of the trophies. Luckily, it was not a costly mistake, and we quickly went to redo the job. It went great the second time, and we could finally deliver our first big job. We also learned the lesson that we need to pay closer attention when machining.
This week was a very slow week for our house. Our only big job was creating ASB shirts for Fillmore High School. We have a design that got approved, but we are still waiting for the shirts to be delivered. Besides that, we designed and created Villano's doorstop, but have not delivered it yet as we do not have the invoice yet. That is pretty much it, so we have spent our free time learning from and teaching other houses. We watched, and occasionally worked with Saaje on their giant shirt job for AVID, which was a pretty impressive feat for such a new company. We also helped Sail create their team shirts as it was their first time working on shirts, and it helped us learn more about working with vinyl versus emulsion.
This week wasn't that productive. We didn't have any jobs to work on as we were waiting for the Fillmore job to be approved financially and design wise. The only real work was done under the table by Andrew. We looked at some designs to put on Jimena's phone case for her, and then Andrew did the actual job for her.
This week was very short due to Thanksgiving Break. Despite this, we still managed to be very productive. We finally got our shirts ready and no one else was working on shirts, so we could start producing. We only got through 10 or so, but in one class period, where we had just started and needed to set up everything for the first time, I would call this a success. We should be able to easily blast through this job next week with great quality for our customer.
This week we continued working on the shirts for Fillmore ASB. We ran into a few problems when we made mistakes such as not waiting for the heat lamp to reach full power or putting on too much glue on the tape, but that is what the extra shirts were for. Once we hit our stride, it was success after success until we got the job done. We now just have to wait for the Fillmore School District to send us our check for the job. This job and the Cold War Trophies have shown how our house thrives with big projects.

As the new semester starts, we don't have many jobs. Well, we have the Bioscience trophy, but the job has been stalled now due to a lack of materials needed. As such, we have started speculating what types of jobs we could expand to in order to obtain new orders. For one, we applied a coat to one of the stamps and it created a multicolored atheistic that looks really nice. We've also thought about the concept of creating key chains, as those can be applied to just about anything someone wants.
Still working on the bioscience trophy. Our last coat that we put on the plaque didn't turn out how we would like it, so we have to sand the plaque down in an attempt to salvage it. Once we've done that, we will reapply the coat differently. On a different note, we begun making a special stamp for Li. Instead of being made of only wood besides the rubber bottom, we will include vinyl of the Laker's colors. It seems to be coming out well, we just need to finish the rubber next week.
We applied a new coat to the bioscience trophy plaque, and it turned out how we wanted this time. Now we need to get the metal the name plates that go on the plaque. The problem with this is the fact that we can't cut the metal needed for it, so we have to order it online, which can get fairly pricey. We are also finish
