La granadina Natalia Díaz, experta en el estudio de datos e inteligencia artificial, ha recogido su premio en la categoría de Ciencia de manos del alcalde de Málaga, Francisco de la Torre. Díaz es investigadora y docente en el Instituto Andaluz Interuniversitario en Data Science and Computational Intelligence (Dasci), perteneciente a las universidades de Granada, Jaén y Córdoba, y tiene un extenso currículo con decenas de artículos publicados especializados. “Este premio me anima mucho para seguir trabajando duro, perserverando e investigando en ciencia”, dijo Díaz, quien ha vivido 11 años en el extranjero investigando en inteligencia artificial, aplicaciones en robótica, cambio climático o salud. “En Andalucía no solo están mis raíces sino que es donde mejor se vive y donde podemos aportar más”, subrayó.

Floods cost the US billions of dollars each year. And it's only getting worse -- as government officials at all levels cope with increased flood risks due to climate change, they need better tools to manage this important work. Today’s flood models can be used to visualize color-coded maps or street-level images; decision-makers, however, would benefit from imagery that is both holistic and intuitive. That's why the Earth Intelligence Engine team aims to produce satellite images of future, coastal floods: physics-informed, photorealistic images that look like real satellite imagery. Using generative adversarial networks (GANs) and historic and real-time data from land, ocean and atmospheric systems, this tool will simulate high-resolution images of what Earth might look like in the future, and enable humanity to better manage a changing world.
