Agha Shakour Garmon Player
Shakour Nasehpour شکور ناصحپور, known as Agha Shakour آقا شکور, was born in Ardabil, Iran, in 1902. Agha Shakour himself, as well as several of his relatives, possessed fine singing voices. Notably, his cousin Mashhadi Ghudrat مشهدی قدرت had an especially remarkable voice and was an amateur singer with a degree of local recognition.
Although Agha Shakour worked primarily as a shopkeeper, he was actively involved in musical life in Ardabil, frequently participating in musical gatherings and playing the Azerbaijani garmon.
Agha Shakour married Huriya Khanim (1920–1974), a ghaval player who had learned this Azerbaijani frame drum from immigrants living in her neighborhood. Together, they had five children.
Their eldest son, Nasrollah Nasehpour نصرالله ناصحپور, moved to Tehran in 1959 after earning a diploma in mathematics from Safavi High School in Ardabil, in order to continue his education and pursue a professional career. Several years later, the entire family relocated to Tehran.
Although Agha Shakour was less musically active in Tehran than he had been in Ardabil, he maintained a close connection to music throughout his life. He passed away in Tehran in 1970 following a heart attack.
